What is Microsoft Access?

Tue, 27 Jan 2015

Did you know that  Microsoft Access is now much more than a way to create desktop databases. It’s an easy-to-use tool for quickly creating browser-based database applications.

Here at Insight IT Training, we’ve put a list together of some of its more helpful features:

App templates

Easily get started by creating a custom app or get inspired by a collection of new and professionally designed app templates.

Table templates

Know what you would like to track with your custom app. Simply start typing it in the “Add tables” textbox and then choose from relevant tables to quickly define fields, relationships, and rules between them. You will have a new app running in minutes!

The "App experience"

Never again worry about users getting "lost in the data" with apps that automatically keep an attractive, easy-to-use interface and consistent user experience. Access deals with the code that creates this professional look and feel so you don’t have to!

Related items control

Users can take a peek at additional relevant information in the database without changing screens, so they have the right context when reviewing or entering information.

Autocomplete control

Entering data is now much easier and less error-prone for app users, with drop downs and recommendations made upon beginning to type in data. Lookups allow for drawing relationships between records in different tables.

Insight IT Training offers three one-day instructor led hands-on courses

On the Level One training course you will gain a basic understanding of Microsoft Access, including the skills necessary to create a new database, construct data tables, design forms and reports and create queries. This course allows you to take control of your data. Insight IT Training course will teach you the basic features of Access. By the end of the Level 1 course, you will understand working with table data, queries, generating reports and much more besides!

The Level Two course is designed for those who wish to gain intermediate-level skills, or individuals whose job responsibilities include constructing relational databases, performing database maintenance, creating advanced queries and reports, or integrating Microsoft Access with other programs. You will learn how to design a relational database, explore table relationships and organising a database. It also covers sharing data and advanced reporting. So if you’re in the business of managing data, then our Microsoft Access Level 2 course will give you the power to handle the creation, manipulation and analysis of your organisation’s data.

The Level 3 course is suitable for database administrators or prospective database administrators who have experience working with Access and need to learn advanced skills. During this Level 3 course, participants will learn the more complex techniques such as advanced form design, using macros and advanced database management. This course also covers securing a database and managing switchboards.

What is VBA? (Visual Basic for Applications)

VBA is a programming language which allows the user to create their own system within the application, such as Microsoft Access, in order to automate tasks. It can be used to control many aspects of the host application, including manipulating user interface features, such as menus and toolbars, and working with custom user forms or dialog boxes. It can, however, be used to control one application from another. For example, it is used to automatically create a Word report from Excel data, which are automatically collected by Excel.

Insight IT Training offer 1 and 2 days VBA courses for Access and Excel.  These courses have been designed to give experienced users the skills they need to understand the basics of VBA Programming. You will learn and understand procedures and functions, working with objects and record sets. We will cover topics such as using expressions, variables and intrinsic functions, debugging and error handling.

Insight IT offers computer training in a very wide range of IT packages. IT courses are available for Microsoft (such as Microsoft Office and VB) and Adobe (like Photoshop and Illustrator), but also Corel, Quark, AutoCAD, Crystal Reports and Sage.

The trainees can work on their own data and reports during any of the above courses, making it as relevant as possible to your job role and business.

Tailored Training

If you want a bespoke course with a tailored content, it is easy to do so and is free of charge. Simply “Pick and Mix” the topics you want from the outlines, send us a “Wish List”, complete a Skills Assessment Form that we can send to you or a trainer can call you to discuss what you want to achieve from the training. We will then create a course content for your approval.
